Eden Mills is a bit off the trail but it is where my high school friend Barbara Walton lives with her partner Steve Bella. In September 2016 I was traveling with Dee during the Southern Ontario section so we had the support vehicle.

We were fed beautiful organic meals, meet many Eden Mills folks at a presentation Dee gave and were taken to a water security rally in Guelph .

Food and water security was a recurring theme.

And of course the question was asked “what do you eat on the trail?” The response launched Barbara onto a journey of her own to find food solutions for Dee on the trail.

Research, food smarts, imagination, determination and a dehydrator has resulted in an amazing assortment of prepared foods. Ingredients includes kale and garlic from the garden and apples from the Eden Mills Edible Forest Garden that borders their backyard.

Later in October when I was back in Halifax, Barbara and Steve traveled from Eden Mills to the Muskokas to deliver food and transport Dee’s bike so Dee could hike it. She had reached a spot on the trail that she could not ride or push her bike through. The video shows the arrival of Barbara, Steven and the food.
